We are currently seeking a Director of Information Technology to join our team.  The primary function of this position will be implementing and maintaining a stable in-house/cloud hybrid network to meet The Vision Council's business and member needs.  Additional responsibilities will include generation and maintenance of the technology budget; modification and enhancement of the network environment; implementation and oversight of web site initiatives; and ecommerce strategy.  The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills; dedication to delivering an excellent user experience; and will work proactively to anticipate the technological needs of the organization.


Network Administration

Work with our MSP and its support staff to achieve the following:

  • Develop/implement annually a 3-year technology plan and manage implementation of same
  • Develop and administer annual technology and training budget
  • Responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of network infrastructures including monitoring server systems, Hyper-V Virtual hosts, Hyper-V Virtual servers.
  • Document and maintain network documentation and information on hardware and software warranties and processes.
  • Provide planning and support for network/system upgrades to meet emerging technology and business and member needs
  • Ensure that network systems are secure from internal and external security threats including configuration of Sonicwall firewall and file permissions structures
  • Network address registrars, DNS, and domain information.
  • Oversee configuration of new equipment, setup and removal of users from system
  • Annually review performance of network support vendor, internet provider and other technology vendors to develop budgets and award contracts
  • Ensure functionality of remote login systems including VPN & Outlook Web Access
  • Office 365 and Sharepoint cloud administration
  • Manage and ensure that network is protected from viruses
  • Manage and ensure Websites are protected from viruses
  • Manage computer equipment leases and maintain inventory and location records
  • Ensure integrity of network back-up systems
  • Develop and maintain in conjunction with Dataprise (MSP) and senior management team a Disaster Plan
  • Serve as a proactive resource to all staff on in-house computer programs and equipment
  • Primary liaison for all technology and data related vendors
  • Assist on other projects as needed
  • Manage Shoretel Sky phone network

 Web Site Services

  • Oversee overall web strategy including e-commerce, content and services offered to members, eyecare professionals and consumers in conjunction with other department heads
  • Oversee development of dynamic content from in-house association management database (iMIS) to various web sites including e-commerce capabilities
  • Manage hosting services for web site and recommend strategy (in-house hosting or outside vendors)
  • Implement security protocols to ensure that website data is not compromised.

 Database Oversight

  • Oversee Database Specialist projects including database information update schedules, database checks, input of new information, features and services
  • Oversee Database Administrator work in maintaining database integrity, programming and publishing information from database to website



  • Bachelor's Degree Required, MBA a plus.
  • 5-10 years of information technology related management experience
  • Experience with developing and managing IT capital and operating budgets aligned with budget directives.
  • Prior management experience with direct reports, direction-setting and coaching. 
  • Knowledge of security standards, security architectures, risk assessment and management, business continuity planning and disaster recovery planning.

 Computer Proficiencies:

 Demonstrated successful design & implementation of networks. Requires comprehensive knowledge of:

  • Networking protocols
  • Firewall/Switch Technologies
  • Troubleshooting skills and tools
  • Planning and configuration and management of routers, switches, gateways and network management software.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Technical expertise with Windows AD environment, SQL and server
  • Sharepoint and Office 365
  • Administration/troubleshooting, firewall technologies
  • Shoretel Sky administration
  • Hyper-V Virtual Machines
  • MCSE, ASP, Cloud Computing, and iMIS experience desirable.
  • Previous management of web site services and strategies.

This position requires a self-motivated individual who is calm under pressure, organized, efficient, requires minimal supervision, is a team player and builder, and a good verbal and written communicator at all levels. The candidate will have a strong sense of customer service and works to ensure that the staff and members receive a positive interaction. This person will have the ability to differentiate and manage key issues, to plan and organize work, allocate priorities and manage time.

The incumbent may be required to work unusual hours. Consistent attendance required.
